Supernatural University Volume 2 questions by chapter

We don’t know this book well enough to ask about its story, so these are open-ended prompts that get a reader thinking about the chapter they just finished: what happened, who changed, what they would do. One question per chapter, across all 24 chapters, and every one is editable before you print. The example answers under 3 of the chapters are the ones printed at the front of the booklet.

  1. Chapter 1

What are the most important things that happen in this chapter, and how would you explain them to someone who has not read it?

  2. Chapter 2

Which choice in this chapter tells you something important about a character? Explain what you learn from that choice.

  3. Chapter 3

How does the place or time in this chapter affect what happens? Use a detail from the chapter.

  4. Chapter 4

Based on a clue in this chapter, what do you predict might happen next? Explain your thinking.

  5. Chapter 5

Choose a word from this chapter that is new, interesting, or used in an unusual way. What do you think it means, and which nearby words help you?

Example answer: For this example, I am imagining a chapter that uses the word "uneasy." I think it means worried or not comfortable. If the nearby sentences describe someone checking the door and biting their lip, those actions would support my guess. I would try replacing "uneasy" with "worried" to see whether the sentence still makes sense.

  6. Chapter 6

Which part of this chapter did you enjoy most or least? Explain what made you feel that way.

  7. Chapter 7

What problem or challenge gets the most attention in this chapter? Describe how a character responds to it.

  8. Chapter 8

What does an interaction in this chapter show about the relationship between two characters?

Example answer: For this example, I imagine one character saving a seat for another after an argument. I would see this as a sign that they still care about each other. Saving the seat would matter because it welcomes the other person without needing a big speech. I would think their friendship has a problem, but neither person wants to give up on it.

  9. Chapter 9

What message about life could a reader take from this chapter? Support your idea with something a character says or does.

  10. Chapter 10

Choose a moment when a character has a strong feeling. How do the character's words or actions help you understand that feeling?

  11. Chapter 11

What surprised you in this chapter, or what happened just as you expected? Explain why.

  12. Chapter 12

How does something in this chapter connect to an earlier part of the story? Explain why that connection matters.

  13. Chapter 13

Whose thoughts or feelings do you understand best in this chapter? How might the chapter seem different from another character's point of view?

  14. Chapter 14

What advice would you give a character before the next chapter begins? Explain what might happen if the character follows it.

  15. Chapter 15

Find a word or phrase that helps create the mood of this chapter. What feeling does it give the scene, and why?

  16. Chapter 16

Which detail seems like a clue that could matter later? Explain what makes it stand out.

  17. Chapter 17

Did a character treat someone fairly in this chapter? Explain your opinion using an action or a line of dialogue.

Example answer: For this example, I imagine a character blaming a teammate without listening to their explanation. I would think that was unfair because the character had only part of the story. The refusal to listen would be my strongest evidence. I would want the character to ask what happened before deciding who was responsible.

  18. Chapter 18

What does a character learn, or fail to learn, in this chapter? Describe the experience that could teach that lesson.

  19. Chapter 19

Where does this chapter feel fast or slow? Explain how the amount of action, description, or dialogue affects your reading.

  20. Chapter 20

What question are you still wondering about after this chapter? Explain which details made you ask it.

  21. Chapter 21

How would your response to a situation in this chapter be similar to or different from a character's response? Explain why.

  22. Chapter 22

Which small detail would you keep if you had to shorten this chapter? Explain why that detail is worth saving.

  23. Chapter 23

What seems most important to a character in this chapter? Use evidence to explain how that value guides the character.

  24. Chapter 24

If you could reread one scene from this chapter with a reading partner, which would you choose? Explain what you would want to discuss.
