About the book
The Island is at war. Skandar, now an outlaw, is in hiding after Rex Manning revealed a game-changing secret at the Chaos Cup. But as Rex prepares to invade the Mainland, the Islanders are not sure who to trust. With one of Skandar’s closest friends now fighting for the enemy, Skandar must build new alliances—including an uneasy truce with Kenna.

Chapter 12
What does being called an outlaw make you expect about Skandar's life? Explain how your reading supports or changes that idea.
Example answer: I expect Skandar to have trouble finding a safe place because an outlaw cannot live openly. The fact that he is in hiding supports my idea. I also think being called an outlaw could make other people doubt him. To me, that label does not tell us everything about whether he is a good person.

How might the trouble on the Island affect people on the Mainland? Use what you know so far to make a prediction.
Example answer: I predict that people on the Mainland could be in danger even though the war starts on the Island. Rex is preparing to invade the Mainland, so the trouble may spread. I think Skandar will need to consider people in both places when he makes choices. This makes his problem bigger than just keeping himself safe.

-
Chapter 32
What qualities does Skandar need to become a good leader? Explain which quality your reading so far makes you think is most important.
Example answer: I think Skandar needs courage, patience, and good judgment. Good judgment seems most important to me because the Islanders are unsure whom to trust. He needs to listen carefully instead of deciding that everyone is either a friend or an enemy right away. A strong leader should think about how each choice could affect other people.
