Example answers

Printed at the front of the booklet, so your reader can see what a strong answer looks like.

Chapter 1: At the beginning of the chapter, how does Zack feel about celebrating Christmas on Nebulon instead of Earth? What details from the story show his feelings?
I think Zack feels unsure and a little homesick about Christmas on Nebulon. He is used to the way his family celebrated on Earth, so the new planet makes the holiday feel strange. The details about him noticing what is different show that he misses familiar traditions. He also seems curious, so I think he wants to enjoy it even if it is not the same.
Chapter 5: Choose one unusual word, invention, or holiday tradition from this chapter. What do you think it means, and what context clues helped you figure it out?
One unusual thing in this chapter is the way Nebulon has its own special holiday customs. I think the new word or invention is connected to celebrating Christmas in a space-age way. The context clues are the characters using it while they decorate or get ready for the holiday. That helped me understand that it is part of their tradition, even if it is different from Earth.
Chapter 9: By the end of the book, how has Zack changed in the way he thinks about Christmas? What message do you think the author wants readers to understand?
By the end of the book, Zack understands that Christmas does not have to look exactly the same everywhere. At first, he wants the holiday to feel like it did on Earth, but later he learns to enjoy new traditions on Nebulon. I think the author’s message is that the most important part of a holiday is being with people you care about. New ways of celebrating can still be meaningful and fun.
